WP Fourth Graders taught robots how to ski this week! The robot is called a Sphero and it uses degrees for directional coding. Students can add lights and sounds to the programming and control the speed and rolling time. Our Third Graders took an adventure across the globe - presenting the results of an in-depth research project which delved into the culture, history, language, cuisine, and geography of countries around the world. Each student took their new-found knowledge and presented it to their classmates in the form of a beautiful travel brochure. Joyful Learning creates Confident Students!

Mrs. Fahrenbrook stepped in for Mister Bruce this morning to lead us in Elementary Chapel. The focus this week is "Perseverance" - she shared an inspiring story about a famous WWI racing pigeon who saved 200 men by delivering an important message. This amazing pigeon's name was Cher Ami - a perfect example of bravery and perseverance!

Our PreK 3s classes have been busy learning all about the cold weather - including snowflakes, snowmen, snow, and animals that live in arctic climates! The students celebrated this lesson with "Hibernation Day" (pretending to hibernate and huddle together in a cave with their special stuffed animal friends)! Science is Fun!

Do you want to melt a Snowman? Our PreK 4s students participated in a hands-on science lesson about the 3 forms of water (solid, liquid and gas). They built a snowman out of ice and then watched him melt away! Students talked about what would cause him to melt and then what would happen to the water once he was completely melted. So fun!!!

Mrs. Taylor's PreK 4s class has been studying arctic animals and hibernation. To experience the warmth of blubber, students were invited to put one hand in a bowl of ice water, and the other in a sleeve of blubber and ice water to compare! (The blubber is Crisco.) Polar bears are built for the weather much better than we are. Brrr!

Do you want to build a snowman? Wesley Prep Toddlers created a cool snowman with shaving cream. It was a great hands-on activity that was perfect for practicing hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, creativity, and sensory play! And it was fun and messy too!

The students in Mrs. Rogers' PreK 2.5s class had a Teddy Bear Picnic this week! They introduced their friends (including bears, dogs, and unicorns). The children spoke about how their animal is unique - including their name, how they feel, what color their fur is, etc. The picnic included a story and homemade biscuits with yummy honey. There was also a tent shaped like a bear. It was a special day!

WP Second Graders traveled to Target to purchase items for Six Angels from the Salvation Army's "Forgotten Angels" tree. In addition to spreading Christmas Cheer, the students paid for the gifts with the funds they raised during their recent donut fundraiser. From top to bottom - this outreach project was full of important lessons (from communication and marketing to budgeting and math)!

PreK 4 students made groovy, Christmas lava lamps this week (and learned an exciting scientific lesson in the process). The overall lesson, that oil and water do not mix, gave an age-appropriate and festive spin on a more complex scientific concept. Science is Cool and Hands-On Learning is fun!
