Welcome to Wesley Prep, where we develop joyful leaders empowered by academics and integrity. What I hope you see exemplified throughout our website is a school family with a deep well of energy, joy, and love for our calling of growing children’s hearts, minds, and bodies.
Nineteen years into my career as an educator and leader, my philosophy can be summarized by the exhortation my first boss would share at the final faculty meeting before the first day of school. He would look out over the room, making eye contact with each of us, and say, “Make ‘em love it. If they love it, they’ll learn it. And if you are doing the work of making them love it, you are doing the work of building those relationships.”
Make ‘em love it. If they love it, they’ll learn it. And if you are doing the work of making them love it, you are doing the work of building those relationships.
At the heart of that message is the heart of teaching – the relationship between teacher and student. The work of education is deeply human, and the calling of a teacher is to invite students into the great joy of learning and the adventure that happens when curiosity is piqued. Whether working with our youngest learners in early childhood or with our oldest students in sixth grade, our teachers know that the most effective role they can play is that of co-facilitators and co-adventurers on the journey of asking questions, problem-solving, and discovery. Our teachers know that good teaching and learning cannot happen without a strong relationship between teacher and student, and so our teachers build safe, inviting classrooms; they are visible and active in their students’ lives in the various settings in and around school; they know their students.
Children are at their best and most primed to learn when they know the adult in the room knows them and cares for them, and at Wesley Prep we believe in knowing and educating the whole child – the child as a learner, an artist, an athlete, a musician, and a growing young person experiencing the various stages of cognitive, social and emotional development. Our promise at Wesley Prep is to create an atmosphere of joy where your child is inspired to become a lifelong learner, where your child is known and loved fully, and where your child grows into a confident, capable young person.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us through our website. We would love to get to know you more, so please visit us on campus and experience our Wesley Prep joy in person.
With gratitude and expectation,
Children are at their best and most primed to learn when they know the adult in the room knows them and cares for them, and at Wesley Prep we believe in knowing and educating the whole child...
