PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
Highlights of Wesley Prep Preschool
Our instructional plans are designed to foster a love of learning and intentionally scaffold skills that lay the foundation for kindergarten readiness, all while honoring the most important piece: connection and relationships. We are experiential in nature; intentionally building experiences through the classroom environment, teacher-led lessons, and thoughtfully-chosen toys and manipulatives to support the curiosity of a young child. Manipulatives and hands-on activities are used by our teaching teams to bring relevance to the topics and units being taught in our preschool classrooms and to engage the children in meaningful and intentional ways, so the subject matter is known and experienced, rather than simply memorized. Circle time is a daily activity to introduce and teach concepts and skills, and teacher-designed centers can include science, art, math, blocks, and more. Formal curriculum is used in our PreK 3 and PreK 4 programs, such as Learning Without Tears and Sounds Abounds, to introduce and reinforce foundational concepts in mathematics, pre-literacy, vocabulary, and handwriting instruction.
Wesley Prep offers three ages of preschool programs - PreK 2.5, PreK 3, and PreK 4. A hallmark of the Wesley Prep preschool program is the nurturing classroom environment masterfully designed by exceptional teachers that allows each student to develop a positive self-image, language and cognitive skills, independence and responsibility for self, and an appreciation of the arts and creativity.
Major components of the preschool program include learning how to be a member of a group and classroom community, learning how to navigate transitions in the classroom and around the school building, and developing the essential academic and socialization skills students need as they move into kindergarten and beyond.
Our preschool students also participate in a variety of ENRICHMENT such as music, art, PE, library, and chapel which help to cultivate their social emotional development, reinforce fine- and gross-motor movements, and promote language and literacy skills. Science Lab is an additional enrichment class for our five day PreK 3 and PreK 4 programs. Students build relationship skills through learning how to communicate and resolve conflicts in these areas as they practice working and learning together.
