Our Second Grade students have finally met their new classmates. As part of a unit on life cycles, the classes study a group of eggs. From incubation to hatching, the Panthers learn, observe, and record what happens as the eggs become chickens. Additionally, the students are allowed to take the new hatchlings home and care for them overnight.

WP Fifth Graders headed north to Oklahoma this morning for their annual trip to Camp Classen! These Panthers will experience five days of fun beyond the classroom - conducting experiments on life and water cycles, ecology, and habitat, while building skills for problem-solving and teamwork. This week, the students learned about candling (holding a light or candle near the egg to see the inner contents). The WP Fifth Grade technology students recently used "Scratch" (a coding/programming tool) to help create educational games. These Panther programmers created two games and presented them to their Kindergarten and Primer Class friends. The younger students provided feedback, including the game characters they liked and which aspects they found the most challenging and fun!

Wesley Prep is so lucky to have an amazing partnership with John Derryberry Photography each year for the beautiful American History Portrait Gallery displayed at the school's entrance. The Portrait Gallery is part of fifth grade's Wax Museum project, an in depth research project into different characters involved in shaping America's history! The photos are taken at different locations depending on the student's character. Included are snap shots of P.T. Barnum, the circus showman and Martha Gellhorn, a war correspondent.
This was an especially fun “Flashlight Friday” for our first grade Panthers! Mrs. Mayes, our librarian, helped our fourth graders pick out picture books during library this week to read with their first grade buddies. The fourth graders brought finger flashlights to use to read aloud and also brought finger flashlights for their buddies to use to follow along as they read! It was an electrifying time for all, and both grade levels of Panthers are looking forward to gathering again next month!
